Gareth Johnson is Chatterbox's volunteer lead developer (and favourite Canadian). We're incredibly lucky to have him as a core member of our team.
What is your role at Chatterbox and how does a typical 'day' look for you?
I'm Chatterbox's volunteer lead developer. I'm in charge of the code the dev team writes for our website and internal tools.
Typically, I'm at Chatterbox HQ one full day a week. This day usually consists of giving tasks to the rest of the development team, helping them with issues they have, writing a bit of code myself, and deploying the code when it's ready. There's also a healthy helping of planning and meetings throughout the week.
What's your favourite language and why? Or what language would you like to learn and why?
It's hard to pick just one, but I have a sweet spot for French. I spoke it when I was very young, so it's nostalgic for me. Unfortunately, I forgot most of it, but I enjoy learning it again!
What's the one thing you most enjoy about working at Chatterbox?
It's just being amongst this wonderful group of people. Whether we're working hard or just hanging out, I feel lucky to be in such great company.
If you weren't at Chatterbox, which company would you most like to work for?
Well, when I'm not volunteering with Chatterbox, I already have a day job coding at Housekeep, a housecleaning service. Other than that, I'm a fan of Apple, and I like to fantasise about working there sometimes.
